Beeping sound

Every once and a while when I start my car I get this beeping sound that comes from under my dash. Does anyone know what this is? It is driving me crazy.

Its a 1992 coupe.

airbag diagnostic module, located in the radio/hvac control area.
blue box about the size of a poptart, about an inch thick.

it beeps 4 beeps in a row when its no longer functioning as far as being able to see faults in the system
