Thrust Bearing Cap question.

Thrust Bearing Cap question.
It states when rebuilding the bottom end to torque all the main caps except the thrust bearing cap to 70ft lbs. The thrust bearing cap is torqued to 12ftlbs then you pry the crank forwards and backwards it says. Then it says retorque all the main caps to 70ft lbs are you supposed to torque the thrust bearing cap to 70ft lbs too?

RE: Thrust Bearing Cap question.
Yes. The reason for the light torque the first time is so that when you pry the crank back the cap can move to align the thrust bearing. Also, it doesn't hurt to get a dial indicator and check to make sure the crank thrust is correct.

RE: Thrust Bearing Cap question.
i've never seen anyone actually do it that way though. every builder i have watched assemble a motor torques them all down to spec and then gives the counterweights a couple good smacks and then smacks the crank forward and backward to set the thrust.

RE: Thrust Bearing Cap question.
to properly set the thrust bearing you need to torque all bolts down except the thrust ones, they can just be snug, set the thrust and check it with a dial indicator, then after the thrust is set you can torque the bolts.
