Default If you think you know your AOD's, speak up.

here's the story. working on my friends 91 t-bird 5.0L with him, we are putting in a rebuild tranny. the tranny in his car is from an 89 and there is 3 spline's on the imput shaft. the tranny we are putting in is from a 92, and it has 2 splines on the imput shaft. whats the difference? there both AOD's and there both out of t-birds. what do our mustang's have? i think its 3 splines on my 90 stang...

also will a t-bird AOD fit in a mustang?

What do you mean 2 splines and3 splines. There should be more the 3 splines on the input shaft. There is also 2 input shafts on aod's. Which one are you talking about the inner or the outer?

when you pull the torque converter off , on the old one from a 89 t-bird, theres 3 differnt size splines, and on the new one from a 92 t-bird super coupe (yes there both AOD's), theres only 2.

The three spline shaft one has a direct input shaft for direct drive of 3rd and OD. The other either has an electric "lockup" or doesn't have one at all.

if i took pictures of this would it help you identify my problem? the rebuilt tranny we bought came with a torque converter and now we cant get the new converter on all the way. i put a new converter in my car alittle while ago so i know what it looks like when its all the way on.it almost seams like the pump shaft ?? i think thats what it is, is just a hare bigger then the female end in the torque converter.
