identifying numbers on stock 5.0L
Okay so I took the first step in building an engine for our 94 GT.
Ibought a 5.0L that I was told is out of a 1989 GT, and the looks of everything, is right. Definitely got the Fox intake and valve covers. I was told it had about 65k on it. Dropped the oil pan to have a look see and everything is straight, nothing broken, no pieces in the pan, the original crosshatch is still there on the cylinder walls even where the piston was rubbing. Turns over smooth.
My question is... what numbers should I be looking for as I take this engine down? On the block? On the crank, rods, etc? Is there any particular versions of the 5.0L that are better than others... ? Any internals better than others?
My plan is to rebuild the bottom end with Clevite 77 bearings, and perfect circle piston rings, using fel-pro gaskets/seals. The top end is going to be upgraded heads, cam, and intake manifold, but those are still to be determined.
Thanks!

okay, is there anything i'm lookin for in particular? th anks. I think the engine was never abused but it had a few oil leaks that were never fixed so it has a nice layer of dirt/oil/grease goo all over it. When i dropped the pan the innards were nice 'n clean.
