heater core, etc...
Ok you know where the two heater hoses go into the firewall. well about 4-5inches below those hose there is a hole. My dad said its from the heater core and has to do with letting out condensation from the a/c or something, well every morning there is a small puddle of coolant on the floor that dripped from that hole on to my exhaust pipe, and then on to the ground.Does this mean my heater core has a leak? how hard is it to replace my heater core? why is coolant slowly leaking out of that hole?
Sorry for your pain[sm=patriot.gif]yes it is your heater core.It is kind of a pain in the A** to replace.Do a search for heater core replacement and some where there was a link to show how to replace the heater core.
Bacon just changed his, Im sure he'll help you out with some hands-on info. Until you fix it you may want to remove the hoses from the heater core and run them into each other with a coupling, you wont have any heat but it wont be dripping either.
I did mine before i wrecked my car all i have to say the easy way to do it is take the whole dash off you can do it with it loose but i think it is more of a pain that way. if you take the dash out the center console has to come out first.
P.s. take off your shifter handle to

Did a heater core in my buddy's '91 LX 5.0 w/AC a few months ago. It wasnt that hard. We had it done in under 4 hours. Book labor time is like 8.2hrs. I yeah the dash has to come out, but after that its a breeze. You really dont have to take the dash out, you can just unbolt it and prop it up on the right side and work around it, but it really only takes like an extra 10 mins to take it out and put it back in once you are there. 2 people make the job a breeze. Don't disconnect the airbag and take off the steering wheel like the Ford service manual says, just disconnect the battery in case you do anything stupid and work around your non-tilting steering wheel.
I'm a GM tech and i find it hilarious how i can take apart an entire GM dashboard with a 5.5, 7, 10, and maybe even a 13mm socket, but the fords i work on use all the sockets in between that ive never even touched. That one thing i've noticed with ford is they use some odd ball fastner sizes and there is very little consitency in size.
Oh well, have fun!
