fuel pressure
Quick question for you guys. I remember my auto teacher saying that he liked fords for checking their fuel pressure because you can just use a tire pressure gauge. Is this true? also what kind of pressure should I be looking at for a stock 88 GT (speed density) Can I adjust the pressure myself if it needs to go up or down or do I need to buy something to do that. Thanks

RE: fuel pressure
35 -40 psi is okay but unless you buy an adjustable regulator..stock is non adjustable as far as the backyard shadtree idea of the tire gauge[sm=icon_beat.gif][sm=nothatway.gif] just buy the proper gauge it's safer and use the right tool for the right job kind of like using your hand as a hammer in 20 years you'll wish you hadn't!!!

RE: fuel pressure
correct!!! there should be a vaccum line that goes to it and as vaccum loss occurs like at wide open throttle the pressure will rise/spike but only to what the factory regulators predetermined setting it..to alter it you can buy an adjustable one to get greater pressures for higher modded engines

my sn95 with a 5.0 had some of the same symptoms as you are sayin. it was strong and ran good till it hit about 3600.. then. it bumped, jerked, fell on its face and wasnt worth ****. i would have swore i was losin fuel pressure.i checked it numerous times. anyways. after several hours of frustration.. it came to be the distributor. i cant remember what it is called right now.. but it is the thing inside the dist. stator? idk. anyways. i replaced the dist. and it ran FULL power all the way up through all rpms. so. if all comes down to it. and it is falling on its face after like 3500 to 3600 or whatever.. replace it. it may be the cause. .it was for me.

how are all your tune up items??? cap rotor wires and plugs and coil???? you can get a mist bottle and mist the tune up items like wires and coil and look for spark arcing out of the wires...that'll tell you it's time for somr new tune up parts!!

RE: fuel pressure
no the stator/ pick up is at the base of the dizzy inside the distributor and under the rotor is a reluctor ring that ID'S cylinders and simply put when the ring passes by the pick up a signal is generated and inshort this is how the computer knows when and which cylinder to fire.... the ignition module on the side of the dizzy plugs into the stator

well i was just curious because my car seems to burp/jerk at higher rpms...so i was curious if maybe it wasn't getting enough fuel or something....speed density sucks lol
