Track times. Why so bad? RPM Help?
I ran my stang at firebird today for the first time for me and the car. On Run 1 and 2 I could not hook up in any gear. on runs 3 and four I hooked up ok off the line but lost it going into second. I also keep loosing power at 4000 RPM. This is a new (rebuilt) Stock 5.0 4 bbl with 5 speed and a 3.73 Posi rearend. I was expecting to be in the mid 14's but couldnt get out of the 15's. I know I have traction issue. I am running 16x9 wheels with 205/55/16 tires. I know to resolve this I need a bigger tire and better suspension. Any reccomendation would be great. What is the sock suspension limitation.
The rev limit part of it I am not sure what to do. I checked the timing and it is at 14 degrees the carb is a vacumm advanced holley 4180. The cam an lifters are stock for 85. I believe they should be good for 5500 RPM. How do I determine what gives here. With dumping 1000 bucks into parts. The motor will rev to 5.5K easily when it is unloaded. (Out of gear). The exhaust is stock with glasspack mufflers.

RE: Track times. Why so bad? RPM Help?
Maybe you're running out if fuel or there is an issue w/ the timing advance.
Your 60' times are killing you. Some sticky tires and some gears (if you don't have them) should help tremendously!
My wifes 90 vert is stock for the most part. I threw a set of slicks on, she has 3.55 gears and she ran a 14.32 @ 90 something(she lost the time slip) She was running consistant 1.9 60' times. Previously, her best time was a 14.80 @ like 91 Amazing what just a set of good tires can do.

only timeslip that tells us anything is #3, the first 2 you didnt get a good footing and the last one I wouldnt trust
but your 60' seems a abit high, GET BETTER TIRES!
other then that, how about a full tune-up? did you correctly set the timing? how many miles? any problems you're having/noticed? with 3.73s thats crazy

RE: Track times. Why so bad? RPM Help?
1400 Miles on full rebuild of motor and trans. Carb was rebuilt and distributor came from a different car. I am starting to think maybe timing curve on the disty. Or something wrong with the secondaries in the carb.
Traction may be a problem with the rear. I just noticed the rubber from my burnouts was only on the passengers side not both like I would expect from a posi. May be time for a rebuild on the rear.
