What the....is this SOUND!!
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and in dire need of your assistance....check this out
ok so I built a 306 with JE flat top pistons have a set of old Holly heads that have been ported and all that good stuff. So after a million years I finally put the motor in....lol....so after all dropping the motor I set it up for initial firing primed the pump and all that....so hear goes I fire it and hear the god awful sound sounded like mega rocker noise....it was the worst sound I ever heard like are crazy rocker chatter or......? So I'm like what the hell? I take the valve covers off reset the rockers since I assumed that was the noise and may have given faulty readings because the lifters were new and not pumped up? So I reset all the rockers at .625 turn instead of .5 turn?? Anyway I button it all back up and fire it once again...and the same sound??? at this point Im lost.....cant be rocker noise because its sounds like its coming from every cyclinder....its sounds like if you put a bunch of bolts in a coffee can and shook it around violently ??? oh yeah fuel system is still stock with 91 octane.....guys the sound was so crazy and nasty sounding I've had my share of rocker noise and hardcore rod knock......nothing sounded like this....feel free to give me your thoughts.....thanks again!!!

RE: What the....is this SOUND!!
I was thinking that might be the case but I put my hand on the covers while car was running and no "vibration" ? oh yeah and when I removed them the second time to adjust the rockers (which I thought was the problem) there were no marks indicating contact with rockers and valve cover? I hear that sound in my nightmares haha

RE: What the....is this SOUND!!
what is your full setup?
heads, pistons part number and name
rocker arm make and ratio
pushrod length
camshaft specs at .050 including duration and seperation lobe
valve lift limits and coil binding inches for your springs,
any machine work? lets take a look at your general geometry here and start with that
