Auto Trans question for all you tranny guys
this isn't a mustang question per-say, but i'm having trouble figuring something out.
my new(to me) 99 explorer has the OHV 4.0 with a 5spd auto.
the truck has 74k on it, and i noticed when i put it in the air that the tranny is brand new. probably a reman unit from jasper, etc..
my dilemma is that this truck has no low end grunt to it.
my 92 explorer has more bottom end to it.
all the explorers i've driven are capable of kickin the *** end sideways. my truck wont even powerbrake.
all other aspects of normal driving are fine. it picks up at a regular rate, the motor runs great.
i'm pretty positive that its a tranny problem, but i really dont know how to approach a diagnosis and fix.
any insight?

any idea how i'd go about finding out the stock stall speed ? i imagine the info is available at work, but i want to know now

ok i just did some reading and i found this fact to be interesting.
aparently only the SOHC motors came with 5spd(5R55E) autos. the OHV motors were mated to the infamous A4LD
i have an OHV motor, and the reman trans has 5 gears.
anyone think this has any bearing?

Easiest way is to call up a torque converter company, tell them your looking to buy, and ask them which ones will fit that transmission/vehicle combo. A knowledgeable place will probably tell you the difference(i.e. stall speeds)

can anyone provide the gearing stats for the 5E55E and the A4LD ?
if i do infact have the 5E, the gearing would make a huge difference, because the SOHC comes out of the factory with 45 more hp than my motor.
