hmmm well seeing that i want the car to last i will have a machine shop do it So i know i have a good a new or better motor. So have any of you had your 5.0 rebuilt at a machine shop and if so how much? I mean i have all the tools here and such but i just know it is not going to be like one done by a machine shop if i do it. Compression will be all off and such. Prob won't last long either but any suggestions or prices would be great!

THANKS!!!

ORIGINAL: FoxGT

I would say $280 - $350 if you get the parts through Summit & do it yourself.
keep in mind if you go that route, he isnt gonna be able to handle and serious boost or spray...............

rember cheeper is not always better i spend 1200 on mine just machine work heads, block, and i had the rotating assembly balanced it is well worth it runs very nice, then + cam, flywheel, clutch, lifters, pushrods, waterpump, oil pump, new hoses, it rang out like 2600 but thats a good rebuild. it was not bored ither 150k and just honed that is great.

How much it costs really depends on the shop you take it to.

If you can do most of the work yourself, ie, putting the head, intake, plenum, tb, headers, and accessories on then it'd save you lots of money.

Honing is cleaning the cylinders up before installing new parts.Boring is making the cylinder oversized.

Alright well i just talked to a machine shop that is also a dyno here in CT. Owner said it would be a max of $1500 for the short block to have it done. $2500 for the whole engine to be done (heads, etc) . These prices were all of if everything was bad and had to be bought new or rebuilt. So it does not seem that bad of a price but i am thinking about just getting a new motor for the same price or less. Later this week I am going to go to his shop and check out what are some of the prices of the motors that he can get and a cam and heads. If I do have it rebuilt i am going to just pull the engine and take it there. While im there i will problably get my car dyno tuned and have a chip burned so it runs perfect. Ahhh can't wait till this is all done and i get to have my baby back.
