Default boost problem

i hooked up the boost gauge today. it runs at about 22 on the vac side while normal driving. i got on it to 6k and it only went back to zero. as soon as i shifted it went right back to 22 what does this mean?

just hook it to the vac tree by the wiper motor or the upper intake.
