Default Lights going out Help!!!

I just bought a 92 GT. It is all stock, beats the crap out of my 87. Anyway the other night when i was driving the lights went out. By lights I mean the headlights and fog lights. The dash stayed on and the marker lights did too. I use to have a ford truck with the bright light switch on the floor and the bright lights went out like this. They go out but come back on and there seems to be no apparent rhyme or reason when they do it. Anyway on that old truck it was just the bright light switch so I am thinking it could be just the light switch, but wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions.

MFS... multifunction switch, its on the column, it controls hi/low beams, wipers, and turnsignals... thats the problem

for future referance, dont use your headlights and fogs at the same time, it over heats this connector/switch, and ****s **** up

I wanted to clarify a little just in case it helps. I am not using my high beams when this happens, just the regular headlights.

My 86 is doing the same thing. Whe they go out try switching to high beams then back and see if they come back on.

When I first bought my mustang I had that same problem... I ended up buying a new light switch because somehow the one on it had broken...

I have the same problem with my "90 gt. I changed the headlight switch and later found out it is the multifunction switch thats bad. If I shake it and go back and forth from brights to regular lights, the headlights come back on most of the time.

If the lights go out then come back on check the circuit breaker for the lights. I can't remember if these cars have them or not without looking.

heres a fix to your problem.
this alone will work as long as your headlight & multifunction switch are still in good working condition

my 88GT is doing the same thing right now, so i talked to a ase ford tech and he said the most common problem was the headlight switch getting hot, to replace it and check the other connector to see if it melted because that may need to be replaced too. so im going out to change the switch right now ill post later tonight for the update.
