i have gotten mixed opinions on this same thing.. there is a article on allfordmustangs.com i think that says you can just have a mechanic fix the problem with the computer. it is just a setting that is at like .3 and you can have a mechanic put it to 0 which is no delay. it isn' about replacing anything just reprogramming it to work with the five speed.

i did ask a guy at a speed shop and he said it isn't necessary. i guess it depends on who you ask.

i wonder if what your talking about using is an obd2 scanner.....or possibly a programmer? i would think a programmer would be able to do it also beings u can set your shift points in ur auto with it

this is the article. it talks about the computers about 3/4 of the way down on the left. it is highlighted in gray. it may just be easier to plug and play with a 5 speed computer. how expensive do you think they are?

There are a few ways to do this, with their drawbacks......BTSTDT.

1. Leave the auto ECM on, place a jumper wire to create a permanent in-neutral signal from the auto MLP sensor.
[ul][*]Starter will be activated in-gear w/out pressing clutch pedal (safety)[*]Transmission "load signal" will never be generated (performance deteriorates)[*]Transmission solenoids codes will be logged (forcing the ECM into a "limp mode" strategy)[/ul]2. Replace auto ECM for a manual ECM
[ul][*]Transmission "load signal" will not be generated, unless you wire a neutral switch to the clutch pedal and to the correspondent MLPS pin at the ECM (pin #30).[/ul]3. Have a chip programmed with the correct scalar value for the trans_strategy_switch.

4. Install a Tweecer or aftermarket EEC Tuner and modify the logic for that upgrade.......and others planned down the road......

From the alternatives above, #4 is the most effective even though it requires an investment and learning how to use it. And the reason is that it will allow you to modify the ECM for a transmission upgrade now + ANY other modifications (including a good performance cam) you may add in the future w/out been limited by the SN95 ECM peculiarities.... just a thought.
