Default Air pump problems

Hey Folks,

As my user name says I have a 915.0. I had some minor performance work done to it.In particular I put a powerdyn 6lb supercharger. There is no obvious misalignment of the pulleys but the darn thing has gone thru 3 air pumps,The stock one lasted about 600 miles after the mods then I put a reman in and that lasted about 150 miles and now the most recent reman lasted about another 150 miles...Frustrating!!! Anyone out there ever had a similar problem????

Thanks,
Rich

Im guessing your state has emissions testing.
If not just delete the smog crap and put a smog pump delete pulley on.

I live in NJ so I believe that the emission standards require me to have this stuff..

On the first reman I made the mistake of running it a little hard (just for a couple of minutes) in that 150 miles, and it seized completely But on the second reman I ran it very conservatively (highway driving)and it hasn't seized yet but it is starting to squeal.

Thanks,
Rich

Does the kit run a really tight belt setup? It might be putting too much load on the bearings, but I'm not quite sure why it would be the air pump crapping out everytime. Maybe the way the kit is mounted? Do you have a seperate belt for the supercharger? If its one big serpentine, maybe try like, half an inch longer?

The supercharger does run off a seperate pulley. So I've been able to keep stock tension on the air pump. (so belt can only be turned just under 90 degrees) (I think thats right??) So I don't think it's over tension.

Thanks,
Rich
