i have gutted a few cats before, just ram a big rod threw it with a sledge and break it all up, they can tell there hollowed out by tapping on them but most people wont bother even going that far
. i never really liked the idea of hollowing cats, i think it makes the exhaust sound a lil more raspier.

you are wrong on that..my uncles does exaust ..and they will not do it .even if it comes in with out cats on it..unless they really know you..he was fined 10,000 and put on 6 moths probation for doing itabout 10 years ago ..he did a undercover inspection officer...it is easier now..cause oklahoma did away with inspection..but still most shops will not do it..i towed my down there..and told them it was a off road car only..(my old s10 truck), but it had a roll cage and stuff in it..so it looked like a race truck , but i drove it on the street..

When I got my exaust done (in Florida), The guy didn't even care I brought him the Catless H-Pipes... He was more excited about hearing it... Problem is, I too have an exaust leak, by the passenger side headers to the pipe... I need to get that fixed... other than that, my exaust sounds great

I asked a garage for a price to weld my exhaust after I install my mac pro chamber's, mufflers, and new tail pipes. They wont do it because of a $10,000. fine for removing the cats. Any one ever have this problem. Maybe they have actually been fined. This is in SC by the way there are no inspections and no emmisions testing.

just going back to the leak issue, is there is performance hit? Or is it just that you can hear it and smell it? I don't think that I have one, but if it's a big enough issue, I'll make it a point to look for one just in case. All I really care about is if there is a performance hit.
