Default What does the tuner mean when he will chip my car?

I am getting ready to install my Vortech supercharger and stopped by the tuner to schedule a time to have it tuned. They said to ditch the FMU and buy 42 lb. injectores, a lightening MAF meter and they will chip the car for tuning. I want to save a little money and want to know where and what should I buy for a chip. Any suggestions?

I think she said about $300. I was not really paying much attention at first because I thought I had my mind made up with the FMU. After seeing some before and after dyno sheets it made a pretty convincing case to have them tune it the way they prefered. She showed me one mustang that gained 80 hp from the tune. She did say that I shouldn't expect that much but if I see half that it would be worth it.

So they actually program the chip or are they just putting on aftermarket parts? I assume it is not one of those things that goes between the computer and the harness. Or is it? I am not trying to cheat them out of anything, but rather trying to understand what exactly they will do. At $100 per hour I want to do as much busy work as I can and let them concentrate on tuning.

It's a government tracking chip, so they can watch you ................

FMU's are kind of a poor mans fuel control with boost.

When they chip it, they will take an SCT chip, program it on their
computer for the bigger injectors and adjust the timing and fuel curves
for the boost, then stick it in your cars computer.

You can take it back and they can pull the chip and make changes if needed.

1. Baseline dyno pull.
2. Change system scalars, fuel and advance tables and dyno it with new parameters.
3. Compare results and edit some more.
4. Repeat 2-3 until best numbers are achieved.
5. Burn a chip with new logic and install it at the J3 port
