Can aggresive shifting send a T5 to it's grave?
I have wrecked my trans twice in 1 year. It'sa stock 93 with some dumb **** on it like underdrives, elec fan, air filter and Flowmasters. Good fora 13.6 @ 102. Closed throttle shifts but fast and I havea strong clutch.
First time I broke a few teeth off 3rd and the main cluster. Blocker rings teeth and dog teeth were mint so save the miss shift thoughts.
Normally in first on the street I can never find traction at full throttle, even if I roll into the throttle in first it will spin.
At the track there was alot of glue on the track.
I was launching at 1300rpm and as soon as the clutch was out I had the throttle to the ground.
Kick the clutch and shift were bang, second. Bang, third, Bang 4rth.
Then the last run was the normal bang, then neutral. Shifter is still stuck in 2nd but it's now neutral.
So even if my combo is almost stock and I'm on a regular tire, how often do these combos break transmissions.

Took the trans apart today. Stang8689, the teeth on the blocker rings are mint. There has been NO grinding since it was rebuilt last year.
The entire row of dog teeth got ripped off the second speed gear. I fail to see what fluid has to do with that. BTW, the fluid was GM Synchromesh and it looked mint after 1 year of beatings.
Aggressive driving kill a T5, that's the main question of THIS thread. Can a stock 5L kill ANY trans. Answer here is NO!. An old 4 spd Ford Top Loader would laugh at a 5L. An iron 833 Mopar 4 spd would take the power from ANY stock engine. Cobra Jet and Hemi included, and ya in a 4000lbs car.
Djcon, WTF are you talking about. Shift linkage? Have you ever seen a T5?
After seeing the breakage in the trans. I just wanted to now share with you guys what I've learned.
I'm pretty confident the breakage was not fault of a standard T5 but the fault of a decision I made a year ago.
I chose an aftermarket 2nd gear over a OEM Ford gear. Reason (at the time) was price. Double.

Are you letting off the gas to shift? I have been power shifting these T5s for years and have never yet tore out a cluster. What I mean by power shifting is keeping the gas on the floor, stomping the clutch and changing gears. My car was running low 12s when I took out a working T5 and it is still in my shop in perfect working order.I have burred up a 1-2 slider and cracked 3rd speed gear but I did not tear up the cluster. People say they suck but they are tuff little gear boxes.
