I am wanting right around 400hp, so they had better hold up. I wouldnt see why not, as they are tons of stock bottom end mustangs that push around 400 at the crank without issues. I just went with the hypers cause they did not cost to much more, and they are a little stronger than stock.

Another thing that I have "heard" about forged pistons, is that you will sometimes hear a knock on cold startup due to the fact that it takes longer for the forged pistons to heat up and expand. Not for sure how accurate that is, just what I have been told.

From what I read, Hypers will hold up just as good as anything else, as long as it is tuned properly. But then again, even forged can be toasted with spray, it is just a little harder to toast them.

Well I wont be spraying that is just some scary stuff lol. So with these I wouldnt need to get the crank balanced like you said forged would need, correct? Im just wanting it to handle those mods I listed, maybe a little more.

Well, I did not have to. It really will just depend on the condition of the crank. If it is ok, then you would not technically need to have it balanced. You just need to have it turned.

Now, if you have the money to spend (unlike myself), get it balanced, as its just extra re-assurance. But if you are on a budget as I was, as long as it specs out ok, you can leave it alone.

Yea im not on a free range budget unfortunately I have to pay for other things. Im trying to keep it cheap, thats why I kept heads and Nitrous out of the list because Heads are just way to expensive for me, and Nitrous is a gamble that im not willing to take.

wolverine8490.. what year is your car?

regardless of your piston choice for the rubuild... its would be stupid to NOT rebalance the rotating assembly

and forged are better

Well, its a 91 drivetrain, in a 96 car. Converted the 96 from a V6 auto, to a 5.0 5 speed.

I agree that balancing is the best way to go, but its not 100% nessecary if funds are not availible "IF" the crank checks out, and you reuse the original rods.

And I agree, forged are better, but if he is not spraying, then I'd say it is a waste of money. Any piston will hold up to abuse "IF" tuned properly.

So if im going n/a will those hypers hold up to semi abuse? Its not gonna be a drag car by no means its my DD. I calculated all my mods and the gains and its gonna be in the 380 hp range so If it will hold up to that Id really love to save the 200 extra from not doing forged.

380hp? Without heads, FI, or nitrous, I dont think you will get close to that. I have a 306, with the TFS H/C/I kit, and some other mods and I *might* get to 380hp at the flywheel. At least that is what I am hoping for.
