Mustangless newbie
Thats right im Mustangless but not for long. My names Joe, im 30, married for 8 years, three kids 7, 4 , & 4 months.. I have been a Mopar guy all my life but the 03 Cobra's led me to the "dark side", plus there are no cool RWD manual Mopars. I cant afford a new Cobra so im lookig to buy a 87-93 5.0 within a few weeks. I subscribed to a few 5.0 mags about a year ago and im about ready to make my first Mustang buy. Any sugestions? Im looking for a good street strip car. I like the 5.0 LX coupes alot, must have a five speed though, but I also like GT's and convertables....hmmm what to do. I guess I'll know it when I see it. I have some tax money burning a hole in my pocket though. Anyway..howdy Ya'll...

From what I have heard, the 87-92 have forged pistons so they can handle boost better, but aren't as durable as the 93 piston heads. And I think the LX weighs less than the GT. Personally I woudn't go with convertable, but that's your decision to make.
Anyways, welcome; and maybe you could drop a 426 in your new Mustang...if you want to keep some Mopar.
Oh and I never knew that Mopar guys saw Ford as the "dark side" I always liked Ford and Dodge, but Chevy sux IMO.

Thanks guys, Ohh and I thought I would go ahead and let everyone know a little more about me. Just because im new to Fords does not mean im new to cars, I have been drag racing for 12 years, have rebuilt many motors and can do paint and body work, fabracation and welding. I have a 40X40 garage with many tools including a lift , & a 500cid Caddy powered backhoe I built. I also have seven, thats right, "seven" brothers, five of them are also car lovers and mechanics. I have a 69 Dodge Dart with a mildly built 360 I race sometimes, only runs mid 7's in the 1/8th but it also only has 8.3 to 1 compression, (perfect for a turbo).
I have a 89 SHO I have gutted out that I like to run around the back roads in. Im helping my oldest brother build a VERY stout 500cid stroker for his 'Cuda we are restoring. So needless to say I have no prob with the idea of just buying a body and building a 347 or 408 stroker to drop in it, but the most important thing is reliability. I want to make the Hot rod "Power Tour" this year and thats comming up fast, EFI is a must & I like the idea of forced induction. But still im new to the Mustang crowed, Im not a know it all, and I love getting others opinions and expert info. Oh one more thing, I cant spell worth a damn! I need spell check on this thing! [:'(] Please dont think im a idiot when I go to asking what intake or headers work best, ect... I do use the search feature and read all I can about products though so I'll try to keep it to a minimum. Thanks....Joe

Nah, we don't mind too much about massive questions.
Welcome to the boards and good luck in your search.
Yes the LX Coupes, otherwise known as the notchback, are a couple hundred pounds lighter than the GT.
Same engine and everything (5.0 LX Notch). Just in a much lighter package.
Personally I love the look of the 87-93 GT's so that's what I went with.
Feel free to checkout my project by clicking on my sig. picture.
So what's your price range and where ya from?

RE: Mustangless newbie
get an '89-'92 5.0 so that you get both the forged pistons and the MAF engine control which will accept engine mods like bigger cams much better than the '88 and older speed density contol systems.

Good to find another Joe on the forums. Well if you have been building Mopars and things of that nature, it is about time you came into the mustang world!! The 5.0 is an awesome car. The reason I like it so much is because it is very nimble, and very quick. In my opinion a sport car with a muscle car engine makes for some great fun.. Beats a big ol' cuda or a Taurus anyday! lol
