Yeah, carburetion definately works really well, when set up properly. My car is carb'd, drive it every day, in cold weather it starts on the first turn of the starter motor, no problems with it at all. Carburetion has some major advantages over fuel injection, and some of the newer carbs we're seeing from the manufacturers for blow through applications are capable of metering fuel appropriately in response to changes in air density. You run a good blow through carb and you actually have a carburetor that can adjust the AFR as weather changes(or boost, since that's what they're deisgned for). FI definately gets the win on emissions though.

As far as the OP's question of switching to carb, yeah there's a bit more involved than just swapping manifolds and putting a carb on top. It won't be "cheaper" since you already have a metering system that works, so you'd be spending money on a whole other system unnecessarily. Plus, if you don't know how to set up a carb then you're just switching to a system that needs user input that you can't provide. It'd be cheaper and easier in the long run to stay FI

see im with mjr46, my cars is not going to be daily driven, nor cold starts. I amaway at college and my car is torn apart in my garage forbody work. It is my screw around car. my daily driver is a jeep with a carter bbd which is the worst carb in the world, and i can make it run smooth. My car also does not need emisions done because of the new law in IL. I know alot about carbs for an 18 yr old kid. i read up on anything if i dont know it. they are reliable, less problematic and the only thing i know. i am planning on doing an H/C/I and i need the new uppper / lower intake, i want bigger throttle body, i would need a tune i would prolly need a tune. i cant get an edlebrock chromeperformer intake and600 cfmcarb for like 600$$ all of the parts for the FI seem to add up to more. But againiam only 18 so any input is great.

You'll need a different dizzy since yours is controlled by the computer, if you're gonna get all new stuff anyway, and wanna go carb, then yeah, you could. I like it for it's simplicity, reliability and ease of tuning, plus they're capable of making excellent power and getting decent mileage. I don't have to worry about emissions either

dizzy = shorthand for distributor. The EFI ones are electronically controlled (for timing advance) while the carb ones I think have a vacuum advance.

do you think that i would gain more power if i converted to carb with the 600 cfm and the performer series intake with out doing a H/C/I or would it basically be the same?

It's gonna depend on the carb setup vs the efi setup. A good intake and carb will make better power than crappy efi, good efi will make better power than crappy carb/intake
