Yea you dont need 3". But you already have it so just finish the rest of your exhaust the way you want it.

Just cause it came with the car when you got it doesn't mean it belongs there. I bought my '92 with only one bolt holding the tranny to the bell housing. Imagine how leaving it like that would have turned out.

BEAUTIFUL!!! Just because it is what it is does NOT make it the way it should be. Consider all the butthead wrechturners out there. NEVER take for granted that your car is setup right just because someone else did it. Trust you and only you. Verify everything you possibly can. Then you can rest assured that it has been done right. If you dont know, research and decide what really needs to happen, theneither verify that it is that way, or do it that way yourself. End of discussion.

Because the mods you currently have are not enough to warrant the need for 3" exhaust. Maybe once you step-up to 500 or more hp then the 3" will be what you need. Too big a pipe reduces the velocity of the exhaust gases traveling through the system. This in turn can reduce the effect of properly scavenging the cylinders which will hurt your bottom end torque. A small block V8 making 350hp or less at the flywheel just does not need 3".

its not needed on a car unless it eclipses the 500 mark. even then moving to the larger exhaust isnt needed. it may give more hp but it will take away some of that torque. sh*t, none of the cars at my house have larger than 2 1/2" and some are monsters. one of them is a '69 Talledaga with a 428cj that has alum heads and a cam thats just under .600" lift and a lot of duration. another is a 69 BOSS 302 but it has a 427 side oiler from a real genuine 66 GT40. i just had that motor out to check it all out and build it up a "bit". now its still a standard bore 427 medium riser that was just honed out but when put back together it has a decent bumpstick that shows .626" I .636" E and 260*+ of duration at .050", dual 660 center squirter carbs. like i said these things still have 2 1/2" and have plenty of power, trust me. im not sayin that since i dont have 3" then you shouldn't, but im just tryin to show example
