Default Need help on Problem

here is my problem.
when i finished installing a set of afr 185 and a F 303 cam and started the engine. the engine started ok but needed to be advanced or retarded. well the next thing i see is that the engine turned off. so i looked and then found out the the distributor wasnt moving. so i took everything out to the timming chain. i saw that the cam sprocket screw came off loose. i tighten it up and put the timming cover and set it to timming to start adjusting the valve when all of the sudden the crank got hard an then it moved againg but then the distributor wasnt moving againg. when i took it all off againg i saw that it was the same thing but the cam key ( the stick that alings cam to sprocket) was broke. i need to know if this meant that the cam lift was to high and it hit the valve or that it didnt. Could the cam n work with my set up or should i just replace the KEY on the F cam.

need help

well number one you should have clayed the pistons to begin with and checked ptv.......so I'd repair all broken stuff and put it back together and rotate it over and make sure the roll pin in the distributor drive gear didn't shear off too..and put it all back together and rotate the motor over by hand and see if it binds and if it's okay try and start it...I usually put a little loctite on the cam cover/retainer plate boltsand torque to 11 ft lbs.

I dont think that it was the problem because the engine rotated perfectly when i had to adjust the valves before i even started it up. it did it when when the distributor was loose and the car started. it wasnt making any hard noises and the valves werent adjusted properly because you could hear them rattle, but it still ran.
