Use the ATF, that's what Ford recommends. I think the other stuff is equivalent to gear lube, which is way too thick.

Wrong newbie!!![&:]....the syncromax is specially formulated to work in manual transmissions and will work fine in a t-5...that's what I have in mine with no problem at all

yeah that's kind of like ford also reccommends 5w 30 motoroil be used per the tsb but how many of use do that..I know I don't....I agree that's what ford reccommends you use cause if you don't and your in a warranty period then they have a way to wiggle out.......the synchromax is the same cosistancy as tranny fluid and is synthetic based as I race I'd use it over regular tranny fluid anyday..but either way it doesn't matter both will work fine

I maybe a newbie here, but that doesn't mean I don't know what I'm doing. Just because your using syncromax in yours doesn't mean it's right.

You check and add from the same spot. You can use a 3/8 extension on the passenger side to remove the plug where you fill from. Bend a cotter pin at a 90 degree angle about a half inch down and stick it in the hole. If it comes back wet, your all set. To fill I use a squeeze bottle with ATF in it a short length of hose attached to the bottle.

The fill plug is further up on the tranny towards the top, don't remove the torx bit one, as this will screw up the trans.

dont use royal purple i tried it and it foamed up in my tranny. go to oreillys buy 3 quarts of regular atf pull the shifter out remove the top fill hole plug (about 3 inches above the drain plug), put a pan under the tranny and fill it from where the shifter goes till it runs outta the fill hole in the side of the tranny. done deal!

I use the royal purple synchromax in my T5 and it has made it quiter and keeps the temp down.

BTW Ford says to use motor oil in their 5 speeds cause the ATF was too thin.
