Default Question for guys that have worked on Cobra engines

Got a q for you.

Has anyone put in a bigger cam in a stock cobra engine with no ptv issues? (With the original heads, 1.7 rollers, and springs)

The reason I'm asking is because we got a set of cobra gt-40's with the correct crane rockers and pushrods going into a somewhat built 306 in the next couple of weeks. The block itself has Keith Black pistons and a Melling cam.

We don't really have the means to clay the pistons and go by all the "by the book" stuff. We just want to slap the stuff on an keep our fingers crossed.
Any thoughts???

Also,if the rollers need to be shimmed, where does the shim go??? It can't go under the double retainer and the rocker pedestal is crimped on to the retainer set.

The cam is already running in the car (with the stock heads and stock rockers but upgraded springs and frpp cobra intake)
It is a Melling 24226 (Stage 2) gross lift I .491 E .509 (I .307 E .318) and duration at .050 is I .212 and E .222 (.289 and .300) -whatever those numbers mean???

uhhhhhh play dough cheap and works as well..not worth a risk and how big of a cam and the duration will determine ptv issue

Yeah, but don't you need some solid lifters and some kind of an adjustable pushrod?

not hard to fix...get an old rollerlifter remove the insides and replace spring with correct amount of washers reassembleand buy the 7 dollar push rod length adjuster ....there was an article on how to convert old stock roller lifters to solid for such uses can't remeber where I saw it but that's what I did....

you need a solid lifter... yes

but you can make a slid lifter out of a stock hydraulic one.

Do It Yourself Checking Lifter [/align] Need a solid roller lifter to check piston-to-valve clearance on your hydraulic roller cammed Ford 5.0L or 351 Windsor? Make your own out of an old stock lifter. The lifter at left (below) is a disassembled stocker. To turn it into a checking lifter, grind approximately .020 in.(optional) off the main plunger and flip it 180 degrees, then remove and discard the spring (center). Reassemble the components (right) and mark the assembly with a yellow band so it won't get accidentally mixed in with your other lifters.
