my compression is about 9.6:1 w/ 60cc heads, -5cc flat tops, figuring .025 on the deck.
w/ decking and couple other things i can get about 10.3:1

if bigger = better always, what about the 355 cu in stroker for sbf? WTF deal with that...

from what I hear, its best to keep the oil ring from intersecting the piston pin, but even some of the modern
347 still do. Is it that tighter tolerances and better material used for ring packs are now used? Is this the
difference between old short life - and the modern non-oil-burning 347 kits (of course I believe we are all
talking about std production sbf blocks, right)

im running a short rod 347, where the pin does NOT intersect the ring... however I am not all too worried about oil consuption... I trust my builder

on my srp pistons on my 331, i need the base ring that goes where the whole for the wrist pin is, and the oil rings sit ontop of it, wonder if thats why i had a good bit of blowby?

the 331 and the 347 is very little. you have to worry more about clearance with a 347 amd yes they do burn oil if you dont have the right pistions, which can become costly. according to ford experts you should only bore a small block i.e 289 302 and so on to .40 over howevr if you are going to be using it for strip application than no more than .30 over.another thing to remeberis thatwhen a motor is "stroked" you thin side walls andif you over heat the motor...well good luck yiou may have to start all over again.and be honest, just beacuse you dont visit thetrack doesnt mean you are not going to beat on that stang on the streets.the 331 is a safe motor to build and will probly outlast a 347 because you wont burn up rings as 347 are notorious for doing. the differce between a "stock" 331 and a 347 is like 30-40 hp. its all how you go up from there is where you gain the power. both can be good bases but for and everyday application with a little fun to go out on the weekends stick with a 331.
