im about to install some 3.73 gears and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to go ahead and get a shift kit as well.

would it be worth the money?

also, does it help make the transmission last longer if you've got quite a bit of power?

Yes it is worth it. It makes the transmission live longer because the clutches aren't slipping between gear changes, it is much quicker and harder shifting.
