Default bad sounding noise

for a little while now (haven't been driving the car too much), the engine is making a loud tapping noise (can be heard in the car w/ windows up) but only above 1800 rpms and when there is some throttle. if there is no gas, the noise goes away, and if it's lower than about 1800 rpms is goes away. kinda sounds like it's coming from the carburetor area / top of the engine. any ideas?

Check for header leaks before you break the engine down, they can sound just like something in your valvetrain.

ok. how do you check for header leaks?

although i think it would be the valvetrain... just put in a cam within the last month and with my luck i didn't do something right putting it back together. lol.

EDIT: no more than a thousand miles since the cam was put in.

Make sure your header bolts are tight. I had that problem a few mustangs ago and swore it was the valvetrain, your's still may be, just rule out the simple stuff first.
