I am a 1985 fox, which I plan on boring to a 347 stroker.

It is a DD, I occasionally do highway pulls, but I mainly just do short races on the road.

which gears would be best?

I'd go with 3.73 just becuase your going to stroke to 347 in the future. Might as well get those over the 3.55 to later find out that you want to change them out for 3.73 because you want to go faster.

 

I think with the bigger 347 engine the 3.55 will do you just fine. They are also cheaper to find used on eBay. Just make sure you get real Ford gears to make for easy install.

I'm with this bro. People always say you have toride inyour specificcarwith both to decide. They'll also say there's not that much SOTP difference. But if you care about top end 3.55's offer the best of both worlds IMHO...

As of right now, I went with 3.73s and to me it's not enough. I think with my current mods I would have been happier with 3.90s or 4.10s. We'll see how I feel about the 3.73s after my build goes on this winter.

 

i just put 3.73s and it really woke the car up. it doesn't seemlike goingfrom 3.27 to 3.73 would be a whole lot different but it is. i can only imagine what it would be like going 4.?? something. but the down fall is jumping on the highway. i stay at 3k-3300 rpm just going with traffic, it aint bad but........hey its worth it.

 

i think i have 3:73 in there now cuz i tach up when im on the highway, but the rear is clankin n being replaced this weekend with a complete rear that has 3:55's in it. now my car will be a turd, but it should be nice on the highway.

 

ya it should be alittle better around 250-350 rpm less on the f/w
