Default engine setup

well i have a 91 gt 5sp. so far it has a k&n filter, catless xpipe, magnaflow muffler. my plans for the car are to make it an all around street car that is emissions legal (exception of the x-pipe).

im starting to buymore parts for it but wanted some opinions. so far i have bought an explorer U+L intake, mac equal length headers, and 24 pound injectors. now im aiming at buying some heads and cam.

i was looking at an E303 cam and gt-40x(303) heads. i was thinking an E303 cam just because its emissions legal and i dont kno what other cams are. as for the heads, it was between the gt-40x or afr165. but now im looking at some decent priced used gt-40y heads. does anyone kno the hp difference between these heads? or what would be better suited for my application?

Sounds like your on kind of a budget build like me. I got my x heads for about a grand at blue oval industries. Obviously afr would give you more hp but at a cost, i got roller rockers head bolts and the heads assembled cheaper than a set of afrs, plus i got a kenne bell and trying to keep my compression low.I would think the gt40s would work good with the rest of your combo since its a budget build and all would fit perfectly together being ford parts and made to work together. If your not using a supercharger though then i would get the 58cc heads.I would stay away from y heads, every y head ive seen or people with em have had trouble with valve guides lettin go on the motor. I think it might have something to do with ford selling the y head only as a bare casting so when you go to assemble the ford valvetrain kit tehres usually a problem down the road.

well your right about the budget build. thats good info on the y heads, maybe thats why the guy is selling them to begin with.

i am planning on stayin N/A, maybe way down the road i might go with a S/C but not anytime soon.

are the AFR heads emissions legal? i heard that they were but im still curious. would going with the 58cc affect emissions? wouldnt i have to run premium gas?
