Default 5.0 stinky gasoline smell

my 1991 notch stinks like raw gasoline!! but only if the tank is 3/4 to 4/5 full....

im sure its not over-full, like if someone tops off the tank

could it be the seal from the tank to the fill tube? if so, why no smell at a certain level -
Thanks

could be a bad seal on the fill tube, fuel pump, or fuel level sender.

make sure you do this seal right, Ive seen cars burn down from not verifying no leaks after the new seal is installed.

Its should take you no more than 15 minutes, and is very easy.

I had to change the filler neck seal on my 93 coupe. It would only leak when the tank was full.
Look at the tank/filler neck area for stains from fuel leaking out.
Don't go pulling on the filler neck if it looks like it's leaking until you get the new filler neck seal.
You don't want to totally blow out the seal until you have a new one.

If the seal is ok, other causes could be the sending unit seal, rusted fuel lines, or rusted out tank.

thanks

no liquid gas spills and no smell unless level is pretty high, does this still point to filler neck seal
