need 5.0 advice. drivetrain sat for 6 years
well i just picked up a 89 5.0 AOD hatch for $950
it has just a hair over 100K and the engine and transmission have been sitting for 6 years without use due to the owner not wanting to replace the fuel pump
the transmission was rebuilt just before the fuel pump went out, but what pre cautions do i need to take to get this running right besides the usual tune up stuff?
like do i need to spray some cylinder lubricant down the spark plug holes?
what should i expect when i get this running like is it probably going to use oil? and is the transmission going to need looked at again?
sorry for all the questions...thanks

check all fluid levels and may be drain oil and replace and you'll probably need a new battery and rotate motor over by hand to see if it's siezed and then fire it up that is of course after you have verified you now have a working fuel pump

and for rotating the motor buy hand will that help get some oil work up in the pistons since it has been dry for 6 years?because the last thing i want to do is start it starved foroil

you could remove distributor and using a 1/4 inch socket and a long 1/4 extention and a cordless drill prime the oiling system......however then you'd have to play with timing after it stats...when I first bought my 85 I put a battery in it and changed oil then fired it up...it had been sitting for 5 years unmolested....keep your cost low before you know where your at...with in a few seconds the oil system should be primed up...if a lifter is stuck it'll clatter and priming the oiling system won't unstick it usually ...so just fire it up ftw!!then pay attention for any leaks and or overheating..make sure t-stat opens and you got good heat

Little bit of WD40 sprayed in the spark plug holes can't hurt. Turn it by hand and spray each cylinder as it comes up to TDC.
If it were mine, I'd prime the oil pump too.
BTW, sounds like you got a good deal on that car..........
