yeah, I know, right? I'm a newb too, so I'm not sure, but it sounds wrong. another guy told me I'd be at about 250 w/out the heads...and a good set of heads usually adds ~50? least I've heard that...

If a GT40 H/C/I can get around 300, then I'd thinkyour H/C/I should do about the same, if not better. All I can say is those heads will be a good portion of your gains/HP.

dude with a decent cam and exhaust your at like 350 @ the flywheel no problem with the edelbrock heads.

use your block and crank you have, there is no reason to spend more money on another motor unless your wanting it to be a roller motor. BUT by the time you get your flywheel rebalanced for 50oz (because only a mustang II flywheel will work in your car) and you pay for another block you coulda spent that money on retrofit lifters and not had to d*ck with any of that other crap.

also, you dont reuse bearings (cheap fuxor)

Ok, I don't quite understand about the flywheel. Why will only a 50 oz work in my car? notice, I'm getting the 88 motor with a matching transmission, so if it's a matter of fitting to the tranny...then it shouldn't be an issue. I'm just not clear on why a 50 oz. flywheel is crit. the problem is my block and crank are pretty badly corroded, and would need a full remaching, which is like 350 bucks when it's all said and done. plus a full engine rebuild kit which is another 300+...I'm a poor college student here...:-P I didn't spend 1200 on the heads, I got them as a fluke...they came with the car. ;-) So I'm trying to do something that wil work for the time being wiht a relatively small ammount of cost, but have the potential for later rebuild/upgrading. :-)

The '88 engine would be a 50oz flywheel, and the 77 would be a 28oz. So if you are just thowing everything onto the 88 from the 77 it shouldnt be a problem. The flywheels aredifferent for crank ballence. It would be an UH OH to mix em up. I hope I made scence there...lol

yeah, all I'm doin is takin the 88 engine, and swapping out the EFI stuff for a carb/intake/distributor, etc. I'm not switching flywheels or anything. the flywheel's stayin on the crank it's ballanced with.
