Default puzzling sound

When I turn on the ignition, there is a sound behind the dash (I would guess centre part) which is likeradio static/crackling. No it's not the radio. It stops when I remove fuse 18, which is listed by Chilton as warning indicator lamps, throttle solenoid positioner (?), low fuel module, dual timer buzzer, tachometer, engine idle track relay, fluids module/display. The car seems to be working normally, so I'm not worried, should I be?

Can anyone guess what this sound is, or suggest some tests for me to do to find out?

Thanks for that. Don't remember ever hearing a buzzer, what's it for? What if I just disconnect it?
