Default T5 trannies

I'm thinking about doing a t5 swap and wondered if a manual tranny from a pick-up is a good candidate.

Thanks

I don't have that kind of money right now. I would rather just get a T5 from a junkjard, then I know it will fit with the least amount of fuss.

Go for it!!! make sure the tranny is a T-5 WORLD CLASS... The junkyard will probably want $400 or so and they should give you a warranty to give you time to install it and try it out... I say go for it...

You might end up only finding a 4 cylinder T-5 in the junk yard.I have had one in my car before with out changing the pilot bearing that everyone says needs to be changed. You might not like the ratio's but it will work.
When I bought mine I payed $300.00 for it.I was lead to believe it was a V-8 trans.Issues came up and it took longer to get it in there and I ran out of warranty time to make them take it back. The only thing I had to do was use the 4 cylinder driveshaft yolk. With the V-8 one It leaked trans fluid out the tailshaft.I think the 4 cylinder one is a little thicker.

i have a spare t-5 out of a 4cyl turbo coupe thunderbird...its non world class, but held up behind my built 5.0l...(although i went easy on her) if your near utah or western united states pm me...if not then i would suggest looking at wrecking yards or ebay...if you cant find a 5.0l trans, then look for one out of turbo coupe...they have higher torque ratings and better gear ratios...you will have to use a different pilot bearing...i believe it is a ranger 3.0l, if you go that route, i do have a part number for the pilot but i would have to look...
i hope i have helped...

a 4 cylinder t-5 has short gears for 1st and 2nd and then from 3rd on it gets really long for the highway and crap but 1st and 2nd are for climbing hills...the turbo coupe trans i believe has some better gearing and should be a lot better for a 5.0
