20psi.

Boost does NOT kill engines.
Detonation kills engines.

If you tune, intercool and fuel it right you could run 18-20psi on stock internals.
O_O

It's all in the tune. 99.9999% of all boosted engine failures are
from melted pistons and blown head gaskets. That comes from detonation
Detonation comes from over aggressive or poor tune. Period.

Sometimes you do have factors like a stock computer not being able
to keep up with the tune you need, but thats another thread all together.

its true, the block is gona be maxed out before the pistons rods ect... jus make sure everything is up to speed like tune ups and ect. also getting a tune is very important, u say he doesnt have the money but, ide brather spendd 500 on a good tune, thjen thousand on a new engine

It makes sense I guess but it seems like if it was that easy more people would accomplish it successfully. I talked to a guy with a 12psi KB on an almost identical setup to mine and he said he has had it at 12psi for quite a while with zero problems and it was obviously not intercooled.

He is right, I have a great paperweight sitting my garage until I get back. Unfortunately I had a demise of a good combo, but now I have resources to build a monster of car

hmm... ok thanks guys. he told me the motor is completely stock except for a dizzy. lol
his poor engine. knowing him he's gonna flog the poor thing. i've never actually seen his pony, as he's in CO and i'm in WA... i'll let him know to take it easy until he can afford a tune and a fuel upgrade.

I agree with r barn, but after that 12 boost factor, it gets to a point where 100 octane plus is required and so much timing needs to be taken out that if you do no run racing fuel all the time then it defeats all gains, unless of course you lower your compression with different pistons, thats the main reason why it makes more sense to most people since 93 gas is high enough as it is.

Yea, with race gas and a good tune it won't die from detonation at 20 psi but his motor is stock. 20 psi = breaking the block in half. 12 lbs with a good tune would work though.

a buddy has a s-trim, pullied to 14psi, all stock. 4.10's auto, and control arms and subframe
leaving off idle, 12.3 fastest, 12.6 adverage. no intercooler, 93 octane, and 255pump and Tweecer tuning.

he lifted a head at track, 113k miles on car, gasket didnt blow, put on TF heads and ported cobra intake, its prob got close to 450rwhp.

i built a 331, h/c/i, whole 9 yards. tq. converter wiped crank out, 2k later short block is fixed lol
should hit 325rwhp, i got about 10.3 CR, i plan to intercool turbo at about 5 PSI, it will be very fast.
