RE: 5.0 vs. 4.6
I don't think you can go wrong with either of them but i would go with a 5.0.... They have a wide availability of parts and are easy to work on... Its all your opinion...
The 5.0 Fox gets my vote though..

RE: 5.0 vs. 4.6
Well this has been brought up a lot and its really opinion and what your looking for in the car. If your looking to have a legitimetly fast car without putting a lot of money with it, a 4.6 is for you. Really a 99+ GT. If your looking to make a ****load of horsepower with a little bit of money the 5.0 is def for you. With a 5.0 though you sacrifice handling and such, our cars are made for going straight and thats it. I would take the 5.0 simply because IMO its more of a hotrod than the 4.6 is, nothing beats the roar of a FAV OH! other than that, the aftermarket for a 5.0 is HUGE and almost half the price for any part for a 5.0 compared to a 4.6.
The problem with a stock 5.0 is it has really low rear end gear ratios, so it has a hardtime in 3rd and 4th stock, and also stock 5.0 E-7 heads are really crappy. In my opinion they used the heads just to tone down the 5.0 so they could still make HP but sell it without people being afraid of it. With aftermarket heads you can see increases above 75hp alone. Nevermind if you were to throw a cam into the mix.
Some advantages of the 5.0, they are a very light car, with a very big engine. The 4.6 models weigh a bit more, but make more HP stock. A worked 5.0 is a reallly really tough fight for any car. With some 4.10 gears, good traction, some good heads and a cam, you have an extremely sick car on your hands.
Now some advantages of the 4.6 is first of all over head cams. This setup elminates a lot of parts which equals less valve train weight. Less valve train weight is a big plus meaning they can rev higher without worrying about stuff breaking. Also the DOHC models (dual overhead cam) make awesome candidates for superchargers and turbos. Since they have the 4v heads, they basically asking for some type of forced induction.
Once again, its all about the driver, you cant go wrong with any mustang, just stay away from 98 and older gts, and I would also stay away from the 94-95 5.0s, they are both very slow cars. If your going to get a 5.0 go with a fox, if your going to get a 4.6 go with a 99+. Some other people know 4.6s a little better than me and hopefully cna give you some more input.
Hope this helps anyone who still has this question.

RE: 5.0 vs. 4.6
Why should i stay away from them years...the 94-98 body style is the style im leaning toward because of my budget and i like the looks of them....Also, if i get a mustang...it is going to be svt cobra equipped....

RE: 5.0 vs. 4.6
Ummm...I'd go 5.0 because the 5.0 badges look better then the 4.6 ones....plus "five-oh" sounds so much better then..."four point six" or "four six"...followed by the usual..."no it really is just as fast if not faster defense" that us 4.6 guys always have to endure.
If *I* were to be in your shoes...I'd probably do a 5.0 with as many upgrades as possible. If you go 4.6, I recommend a 4v...
Take care,
Ceyko

94-96 5.0 mustangs are slow b/c they are heavy.
97-98 4.6's are just slow unless you get PI heads and some good cams.

Exactly what he said go with a Fox 5.0 or a 99 and up with PI heads.
