If you have the tools to do it you will come out about $400.00 ahead than just buying one , if you havto buy the pricison tools it might be the same or cost a bit more but you will be ready for the next time . if money is tight and you don't have the engin measuring tools it will be worth the $1000 to have it done .

one thing to concider is do you feel like you can do it..ANOTHER THING IS TOO MANY PEOPLE WORKING ON AN ENGINE IS NOT A GOOD THING.....things you need is an engine stand..like 45.00 at sams..then you need a ring compressor, plastic gauge,a real good torque wrench, 1/2" and 3/8" sockets and some rubber tubes to go over the bolts on the rods not to scratch the crank, a feeler gauge to check ring gap, wire brushes to clean passage ways, tap to clean all the threads, scraper the clean oil, dirt, gaskets, a punch to mark your rods, a mic to check crank, rod openings, bore, lifter bores...I know I'm missing something else?????

you just need the stock size crank if your boring it .030 over, you need a different crank if your going to do a stroker, like a 331 or 347 and you would need different rods, and the block would have to be clearenced as you have it machined. if you want a stroker i would say just buy a short block from dss or coast high performance.

if you go .030 over all you will need that is different than a regular rebuild are new pistons. i would suggest getting flat top pistons while ur at it (as long as you dont mind running 93 octane). it will give you more power.

a degree wheel would also help on the rebuild. you need many kinds of assembly lubes. summit has a kit that includes all of them. do you plan on having your block hot tanked? i suggest getting it done because it does a lot of cleaning for you that you cant really do without it. you will need to borrow a harmonic balancer puller from someone/someplace. if you plan on replacing your cam bearings you will need a cam bearing puller/installer. you also need tons of bags of various sizes to organize parts. also you will need a big garbage bag to cover the engine when ur not workin on it. i think that about covers it
