for every 50 hp shot it is 1-2 degrees from factory base timing setting..so if you run a 150 shot it is reccommended that after 150 shot like with a 175 lets say you should go 1 step colder on the plugs and even at 150 I'd rather be safe than sorry so I'd do 1 step colder on the plug and pull 4 to 6 degrees timing from base.....it's better to be safe than sorry cause when your pounding the motor with NOS you most likely will never hear the detonation even though it is present and before you know it..it'll of hammered the main bearings and or burned a piston

buy a cheap timing light ($20) and adjust the timing at the track that way your car will not feel sluggish at 6 degrees all the time...it only takes like 2 minutes to adjust the timing....as for the plugs...you wont see a difference in 1/4 time with a colder plug so its better to be safe than sorry
hope this helps

RE: must i adjust timing with nos
my experience i set my base at 12 one step colder plugs and run 91 octane fuel with a 100 dry zex kit had no prob. but like was said every car is different i would try setting timing at 10 definately run one step colder plugs and run 91 or better fuel. from there i would play with the timing maybe adding a degree or two and try that. i wouldnt go any higher than 12 though. good luck

man...did you all get your cars dynoed and/or air fuel monitored? I'd be scarred to advance my timing while running nitrous...you all advanced 2-4 degrees from stock instead of retarding the timing...nitrous junkies will tell ya to retard 1-2 degrees for every 50 shot of juice to be completely SAFE...
Advancing the timing looks like it really didnt help much 13.11 n/a to a 12.32 on a 90 shot of juice...i wonder if you brought the timing down, how or if the et would change at all???
even being completely safe look at how i did:
i gained a FULL second with a 75 shot on a 262,000 mile motor...retarded the timing to an initial 6 degrees, fuel pressure at 40 psi, and NEVER had a problem...all motors are different...in most cases you will never here the motor detanate....so be VERY careful

i was running a 14.6-14.7 consistently n/a....on the 75 shot (wet kit), i ran a 13.61
get this...on the 50 shot i gained 7 tenths....i had just about everything to make the nitrous a safe thing to use...i had an 03 mach 1....didnt take any timing out ( i was a rookie with nitrous) and a really bad nitrous backfire!!! I yanked the kit out and sold the kit...a couple of years later i decided to get into nitrous again and this time around...learned alot
i had a msd digital window switch, fuel pressure safety cut off switch, bottle warmer, pressure gauge, and nitrous filter....had it for 2 years....not ONE problem at all....
i sold the vehicle, kept the kit, and will be installing it on my 90 gt once i have reached my personal goal on the stock motor...

ya on my 96 v6 i ran a 55 ZEX dry shot on it and went from a 15.7 to a 14.9, so 8 tenths, im hoping for at least a second gain with my 100 ZEX dry shot on my 5.0, hoping for at least 14.0 on motor then maybe 12.9 on the shot.i only had the WOT switch and blow down tube on my v6, as far as safety goes, ran is a whole summer with no backfires and no problems. i know though that i should get some more safety things.
