Default Thermostat Replacement

I have a 94 5.0 and I'm looking to replace my thermostat. I replaced the hosesand the collant but she's running hot and the fan is staying on all the time. I'm replacing the thermostat but is there a thermostat gasket I need to buy or is RTV sealant all I need?

The thermostat should have come with a gasket.

Stant has stopped including gaskets with there thermostats. The person at the parts counter will help you with the gasket. You will need a little sealant around the housing or IT WILL LEAK.

Thanks bro, but with the parts I have to order them online being that I'm in Germany and that's why I wasn't too sure about a gasket or sealant and I'll get a flush first to see if that will change anything.

to be safe I usually coat the gasket with a thin layer of sealant..to make sure is seals..cause if the two mating surfaces are slightly pitted the sealant will take up that space and not render a leak later on

+1 on the radiator. More than likely some of the cooling fins have corroded away and its just not able to cool properly. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. Car would run hot even though it had a 180* t-stat and fresh coolant (and I did flush the rad and block). I checked my fan clutch it was ok, pulled off the fan shroud from the rad. and found that the fins were gone. Replaced it with a 3 core Police package rad. and now she stays cool as a cucumber even in 100+ temps.

Not providing gaskets is ridiculous. What, do they expect you to re-use the old one?

You kinda lost me when you say the fins were gone, are you talking about the fan blades themselves? If I take off the shroud, I'm guessing the black plastic that covers the radiator or am I lost all together?
