Default Rethinking my build, need suggestions please!

Hey guys, Im getting pretty close to having the money to buy my heads/cam etc. and I was looking for some opinions.

Well my inital plan was going to be to buy some AFR 165's, custom cam similar to F-cam maybe, and then all the rest of the stuff that goes with that, edelbrock intake, injectors, etc.

I wanted to keep this car N/A and still make a lot of power. Maybe get into the 11's or so.

Do you guys think that I can do this on my stock 302 and rebuild the bottom end at some point, or should I go with a 351?

Can a 351 work with fuel injection?, I see that everyone goes carb with a 351.

Btw this is going to be a street machine, not a track car. But I want to be fast.

Yeah you can go EFI with the 351, but what have you done to your current 302?
Cuz some of the parts you may have added won't fit that beefy new 351

Lol, all I have right now is full exhaust basically. As far as engine mods go. I know the exhaust wont fit, but maybe I should jsut stick with the 302 and build it up?

just an FYI, the intake will not fit the 351. you can use that cam as long as you use the 302 firing order and get a roller block. heads will fit, you will just need to drill out some of the holes bigger (i believe, someone correct me if im wrong). i think ur best bet would be to buy a 351-based stroker short block and just through on the rest of the stuff.

i have said this many times before, and i will say it again. i highly suggest the 351W. not only can it hold more power without buying a race block, but it also has a TON more cid potential (347/427). the aftermarket for the 351 is almost as big as it is for the 302 and you will not have a problem finding ur parts. pretty much you will need is new headers, oil pan, and cowl hood, along with the stuff to finish the short block into a long block. this will give you PLENTY of power

Cash is an issue though, which is why Im thinking to stick with the 302. Im not looking to make a track car, just a really fast street car.

stick with the 302 nominal block and look into a stoker kit like vfast said. you can do this on a budget easier than going to a 351.

You guys think for now I should get some ARF 165's, a mean cam, intake, and just bolt it onto the stock block the when I get the cash get a 331? That a good idea? How much more power does a 331 make over a 302?

i say look elsewhere for heads and use the extra money on other things. keep the 302 stock bottom for now. build this up for now then when you get more money worry about the bottom end
