i set the timing at 12* , went out and made 2 stops and the car started missing so i came home and checked the timing and it had jumped to 20*. how i do not know. i checked to make sure it wasn't loose, and it was tight.when i was setting the timing i removed spout connecter before i started the car and put it back in before i killed the engine.</P>

well if it's missing then your distributer obviously moved. Be sure it is tight enough. the only other explaination is that your balancer is bad and is slipping, but that wouldnt cause your car to run bad, just the timing marks would be off.
yea but with vibration it can still move a little at a time even if you can't move it by hand. Be sure they're no oil around the distributer hold down area when you re-tighten it. Also, to be sure, you can always mark the distributer position to the hold down, but thats the only solution to your problem I can think of... assuming your distributer drive gear isn't mangled up.
