T-5 Tranny HORROR part 2!!!!!!!!!!
Hey. I am so Pissed at myself.
I was flushing the tranny for the last time. About to put some royal purple syncromesh when i noticed some fluid on the bottom plug. This was the 3rd time it was coming off. So i wiped it off and Saw a crack. The crack is on the "tube" that the bottom plug goes into. On the front side.
What should i do????
What needs to be replaced?
what is the trans made of??? What type of Medal?
Can I EPOXY the crack?

RE: T-5 Tranny HORROR part 2!!!!!!!!!!
well, the case would either need to be welded with a tig there or replaces.....but for your sake....clean it down good with brake clean and with no fluid in it......try some JB weld..the 5 minute type...or some structual adhesive

yes it'll be fine...but if it were me I'd take the car to a welding shop and see if they are willing to tig weld it..if not.. the ole jb weld it is!!!

Try to loosen the plug about an 1/8" of a turn.
Pipe thread plugs are often overtightened and this forces the hole to open and sometimes crack.
You can try to drain the trans. Dry the hole and plug.
Apply some Loctite 592 to the threads. Replace plug.
There may be a small "window of opportunity" when the plug will not fall out, stop the fluid but not tight enough to force the crack open.

I used to work at jasper engines and transmissions as an inspector and repairer for our standard trannys. And I agree with everyone... JB weld FTW! It's what we used if it was a non-structural crack. Alot of aluminum cases crack where the drain plugs are. Just make sure you clean it real good. Get all the oil off if you can and sand it alittle.

Sorry about the abbreviations. FTW=for the win
Yeah, JB weld's some pretty good stuff. I can't remember the capacity on a t-5. But since you know you had to fix it....You can always check to see if it's leaking later. It shouldn't be leaking really fast. Should just be a drip. If the JB weld don't work... You can get it welded. Sometimes it's hard to find people with a TIG welder. But if you know someone who has one and will do it. It'll be a for sure thing for the case leak. But you'll still have to use some teflon thread tape or threadlock on the plug.
