Ford 302 engine
Recently I got a hold a Ford 302 engine that was apparently bored out to 30 over my father said. Now I'm 19 years old and I know a decent amount about cars but this baffles me haha, so I'm just warning everyone I may say somethign stupid. I'm guess because it's been bored out its now 332 cubic inches. Apparently the motor has been rebuilt and its in very good shape. My father and I were thinking about putting it into a 1988 Gt or even a 2002 - 2003 Mustang. What I wanted to know first if that's even possible and second what kind of power can I expect out of the engine? What amount of HP do you think the engine could generate?

RE: Ford 302 engine
when they say bored out .030, .040 theres a point that goes infront so its not bored out 30 cubic inches but .030 cubic inches each cylinder,
the stock bore of a 5.0 is 4.000, stock stroke is 3.000
a 302 bored .030 would be a 306

Correct as stated above except in the last line he left out a zero (should be .030 not .30). The 'bored 30 over' is really just a glorified way of stating a clean up has been done...the net power result of this type of 'overbore' is usually 1-5 hp. Reason for the bump to a 306 is simply to clean up cylinderwalls during a rebuild.

well the 302 will only fit comfortably into the 79-95 mustangs, anything newer will require special fab work
on a stock motor you could pull 400-450 safely, our weak point is the block, which will split in to right down the middle,

In terms of what kind of power it's currently making...that depends on the year, heads, present cam, etc. Usually stock pre 87's would dyno in the area of 140's-mid 170's depending on the yr, after 87 (might include 86) the typical stock mustand would dyno 190's. These numbers are at the tire, not fly wheel (eingine) engine dyno number are usually 10-15 percent higher. These 'at the tire' numbers will typically be a tad lower for automatic cars.

So 400 to 450 is possible? I actually heard something about the 302's splitting like that when I was reading up on it. Is there anyway to strengthen the block up so that doesnt happen? I was leaning towards an 88 gt anyway so not fitting into a newer one doesn't bother me very much. What options would I have regarding a supercharger? feasible or is that heading into block cracking territory? hahaha

RE: Ford 302 engine
nothing besides getting an aftermarket block will help in making more power
as for the SC, you can stick one on a stock motor and run 10-12 PSI without major problems(you'll need a better fuel system, and possibly sticky tires to be able to use all those horses)
this will put you around 350HP depending on the SC and tune
