Well I hear that 3.73's actually arent too bad on gas mileage. My brothers mustang is stock w/ those gears and it does alright. Also what speedo gear should I grab to get my MPH back to around normal. Im going with FRPP gears, I hear there eaiser to install and dont cost as much to get done because they take less time, is this true?

I have 3.73 and I drive on the free way 25 miles everytime I drive my car. And I if I could do it again I would get 4.30's I'd say 4.10's.

The ONLY reason I am stepping down from 4.30's is bc I take my car to the track. I have WAY too much gear for my E-cam. My power drops off at about 5200. I need a longer pull, so I am going to 3.73's. Maybe 4.10's. I would prefer to get 3.90's, but I can never find a used set. Eventually, i am going to go to an F-303 cam, and then build a 351 and get a FTI custom cam. I drive my car about 85% on the street, other wise, I would just get a big cam and notch the pistons and keep the 4.30's. They are fun from light to light, but suck on the freeway.

1st is useless
2nd pulls like a ****!
3rd is OK
4th sucks
5th...well, you know...

rajun... ever think of retarding the cam slightly? itll throw your power curve higher up... grant you it will start higher, but you'd be able to make better use of those gears... id rather do that for basically free(might need a degree wheel if u dont have one, not expensive) then buy new gears

anyway, 3.73s,i have a set going in soon, they were free,if not id'a went 4.10s 5 speed car

I made the mistake of getting 3.55stwo years ago. I just got 3.73s, and I can really feel the pull with the additional torque. Go with the 3.73s, you wont regret it like I did with the 3.55s

Yeah I did, but I dont want the E-cam anyways. Plus, it will be a learning experience for me. And I am a cheap ***, so i am waiting till i find a set of used 3.73's.

I had a set of 4.56's given to me. The guy thought they were 4.10's and didnt want them. I got home and then counted the teeth and they turned out to be 4.56's. Oh well, they were free. Anyone want to buy them?

i didn't even read all the posts but nthe rpm diff between the 2 is about 250

personally i vote 4.10's

at 80-85 and 4.10's you'll tach 3000 on the nose , every gearset you drop from there will save 250 rpms, but will drop torque pretty good. as an example (not saying this is what you want....just an example) a 3.73 car will NOT lift a tire on slix and mostly stock, but a 4.10 car WILL , by about 4 inches. an aod car will still bog w/ 3.73, a 4.10 aod car will NOT

don't fear the gear, if you decide 3.55's ???? don't bother doing it all imo, spend your money on a radio cuz you'll get more out of it

btw, the 4 cars i've had w/ gears all got 20-21 mpg, 2 had 3.73 , 2 had 4.10

2.73 and t5 all stock on a good day will get 23-24 so thats what you give up
