HELP! electrical problems
i have a 94 GT that i just picked up and its having some problems. at first the car would sometimes not want to start, then sometimes it would barely turn over then slowley start. i thought the battery was dead so i switched it with another, when i put the battery in and connected the negative battery cable everything went haywire. the alternator started smoking, the cables got really hot and started sparking. I was like what the hell. finally figured out that the positive battery cable had got up against the headers and burnt of the covering and it was grounding out against something down there. got that fixed and the car will now start but i dont think the alternator is working. i probley fried the alternator when it started smoking. now the car doesnt run worth a crap. could the alternator being fried cause the car to miss and not run properly? sorry i just dont know much about fords and figured id ask, thanks for reading.
Yes, it could. The ignition system needs a certain amount of voltage for everything to operate correctly. However, if you have a fully charged battery, the car should function normally until the battery voltage drops to a certain point that it can no longer power everything correctly.
the volt guage reads really low probley 8-10 volts. when i rev the motor it will got up to normal, then when i let off it will die. another thing, there is a little two wire plug that is close to the throttle body on top of the air intake piping, it has been cut into. what was that plug in?? Also the fans will stay on after the car has been turned off, you have to wiggle the key just right to get them off. do you think the guy hardwired the fans to the battery or is that normal for them to stay on for a period after the car is off? this car has alot of electrical rigging that i dont like[&:]
That 2 wire plug is most likely for the idle air control motor from your location description. If you have to wiggle the ignition key for the fans to shut off, I would suspect the electrical portion of the ignition switch.
it does idle like crap so that probley explains it. i really dont know why people like to butcher cars just to save a dollar. i was thinking that plug in was the idle air temperature sensor but i dont know. i have all day to screw with it tommorow so well see what i can come up with. thanks for the fast responses guys.
