rear main leak?

rear main leak?
my mustang has an oil leak at the rear main seal and my mechanic said that that was a common problem for ford 5.0s. he said that the bearings always go bad and then it would leak at the seal. he also said that since i have ported polished heads that that was too much for the bottom end of the motor so it blew the rear main seal. i thought that this was all **** because my motor runs great and has no other problems than that leak. i was wondering what you all thought and if my mechanic was wrong, and also what i should do for my problem. thank you

That is one of the most retarded thing I've ever heard. I say do it your self if you have the tools. Its relatively simple.

i was going to just replace the rear main seal but i was worried that maybe something else needed to be fixed that could have been the cause for the rear seal to leak. please more input you guys are very helpful

Are you sure its the ream main seal? Does your clutch slip? Is the oil coming from between the bell housing and the scatter shield? If so, yours is just probably old and needs replacing. Here is a rough guide on how to do it...
1) Pull tranny
2) Pull clutch assembly
3) Pull flywheel
4) Pop out the old seal
5) Coat the new seal with oil and tap into place. Its best to use a flat surface to butt against it so it goes in evenly.
6) Torque Flywheel back into place. Make sure to use correct tq numbers. You can find them on the internet.
7) Should probably replace clutch with a new one. Oil on the discs destroys them
8) Bolt tranny back into place and plug sensors back in.
It should take you about 2 hours depending on your wrenching skills.
