Default oil pressure.. big problem!?!

ok so on my way to work today very hot day in florida by the way, as i come to a stop my oil pressure hits zero so i panic and give it a little gas and it goes back up again, and as the idle settles again it goes back to zero, damn it. so luckily i work at ford and i have them look at it they say it needs a new sending unit so i have it installed, and it stays in the normal range until the engine temp goes a little over half way then at idle it drops agin just a bove zero then fluctuates for a bit then drops to zero, what the hell, what causes this and how do i fix it... anybody?

wel that would really suck considering i just had the oil pan gasket replaced and it cost me big time...what else would cause loss in oil pressure?

you can change the pump and gasket in about an hour and a half. bad bearings could be your problem.... i would throw a $15 pump with a $20 rubber oil pan gasket on it and hope for the best

i had the same problem. tested the oil pressure and it was fine. turns out gauge was screwed. put in a new gauge and its all good!

yeah dont assume your pressure is bad until you check it with a mech. gauge, then go from there

checked with mechanical guage when cold it was bout 45 psi when warm it was like 30, but they didn't check it when it was really warm, when i drive it it hovers around 3/4 the way on the guage then the oil pressure seems to drop off, I'm figuring on ways to keep the engine temp down but if the pump is goin than that is only a temporary fix. I don't know what the hell i'm gonna do.
I'm thinking of gettin a new pump , moroso has a high volume high pressure pump for a good price, what is the down side to having a high pressure/ volume pump, anybody know.

if you race and turn alot of rpms then a high volume pump and suck all the oil out of a stock pan

the h/v pump requires more engery to turn

you may want to get the hardened pump shaft, they are usually around $20

ok i understand that high volume will, suck all the oil out of my pan, but would it be wise to use a high pressure oil pump instead, or would there be any negative consequences, that i should be aware of.

a lot of racers use stock style oil pumps. high volume bumps can be bad for smaller V8s like the 5.0. i would stick with an OEM style, they last a long time and get the job done.
