Default swapped over to carb.

last week, i took my stock 92 5.0 down and converted it to a carb/points setup. the MAF system it great, but mywhole wiring harness had been hacked on so much that i was getting fed up with trying to fix all of its problems. plus i like the carb route better anyhow. after much trouble and several choice words with the car, its all done and running good. I chose to stay with a 2bbl for now and i am going to stay with points from here on out(I love points ignition). the only thing is the car is smoking now...[:@]didnt do that b4 the swap... its not like ring smoke, or steam like a head gasket. this smoke STINKS and is grey. its the "choke your eyes out" smoke.... got any ideas guys?

1. How old is the carb you put on there? Did you rebuild it?

2. This is unrelated - but you did match distributor gear with cam gear right (ie roller cam, steel or bronze gear, flat tappet cam iron gear)?

3. What does the exhaust "stink" like?

Are you trying to say it's running rich? Incorrect timing will also contribute to a car smoking.

smells like gas smoke, but doesnt appear to be flooding. its a FOMOCO 2bbl from a 80 model bronco. and i got to take the dist back out this weekend to swap it over, i was just trying to get it to run for the time being. carb worked fine and i didnt rebuild it

Then you should at minimum change the oil and filter cause you already have metal bits in your engine...

the timing is pretty much dead on, used the light on it. and will the gear off the stock dist. work on the points one?

The gears will not interchange Assuming you are referring to the 302 EFI/TFI distributor and an old points distributor. The shaft diameter is different.

Mallory, MSD, Crane and others will make a bronze gear for it. Or you could use an 85gt 5speed distributor for electronic ignition that will makemore power, get better mileage, and will be maintenance free.

Was the carb sitting for a long time? What do your plugs look like?

plugs are good and carb was sitting for a while, i took it apart and cleaned it all up like new on the inside. it may be flooding a little bit... its raining so bad here that im not messing with it today but i think it was flooding out bad the first time i got it to actually run so there may be gas in the oil. that shouldnt make it smoke tho, i wouldnt think. its not like it filled the pan full of gas.....[sm=dontgetit.gif]
