Default Windsor heads on a 5.0

I was wondering how big of an improvement it would be putting 351w heads on my 5.0. I dont have the cash to buy aftermarket heads right now so i figured it would be an improvment. Also do you have to do any type of mods to make them work and will they work with an e303 camshaft? Thanks

late model 351w heads were the same E7 casting that came stock in mustangs.

if you want a decent set of heads to start off with for little money, go to www.tristatecylinderhead.com and check out their GT-40P remans

If you are going with any windsor heads from the mid 70s on, you will not see much of an improvement over stock. mid 80s on they used the same head as the 5.0

Now if you have 69-70 heads, they are comparable to the GT40 head and a good port and polish will make decient power for the price.

the 70's 351 heads are a cheap alternative for power which yield a little more compression and carry a casting number of DOOE........late model 351 heads are e7 truck heads.... that's where the mustng pirates the heads from

get a set of used gt 40 heads $200-350, and send em to Thumper to be ported, milled etc.

A local racer told me of this trick, and they outperform AFR 165's, Edelbrock etc.

I was astonished of his rwhp numbers, thinking he had just GT 40 heads on a 302.

Save $500+ off the aftermarket new. Dont pay for the name, pay for the numbers[8D]

Dont be intimidated by the quote of $600-$700, they can keep them for 2 + months and you make the payments.

Here is a 12 sec combo

Thumper Heads and Cam combo #1 : Thumper Ported E7s (219/155 cfm) [ul][*]Vassco springs, moley retainers and keepers[*]For cams to .600 lift[*]Double roller timing chain and gear set w/9 position key way[*]FMS "E" ( for AOD cars), "B" , or TFS1 cam[*]Instructions on installation and Cam phasing for the best power and performance for you application[*]Proven 12 sec combination[*]$1090.00 + 100.00 refundable core charge** [/ul]

you can find decent gt40p heads for around 200, found on explorer's , most yards will let the whole top end go for 350.

Way back in the day, Ford published a catalog called "The Ford Muscle Parts Catalog". It contained step by step, stage build ups for various engines. A recommended change to the 302 was the use of 351 Windsor heads. Of course those were the D00E heads. Of course there were literally no aftermarket heads available at that time. I built a 302 for my '65 2+2 using the stage 3 setup which included the Windsor heads, hi comp pistons, etc. Very strong runner! I suspect a set of those now 35+ year old heads might be hard to find. BTW, I run Edelbrocks on my '93. It was built to it's current configuration in the Fall of 2000 and is essentially unchanged from that build.
