bad idle and smoke
My 5.0 has definately seen better days. It is almost 161k miles on it and as far as i know, the engine has never been taken apart, not even the intake manifold taken off. But i was driving it kinda hard today trying to keep up with my friends STI and when we came to a light my engine was smoking. The temperature was at about 160 degrees. I kept driving it but not as hard and when i got to the next light i turned my AC off. As soon as I did this my car could not find an idle. It surged from about 200rpms up to 1k, and just kept going back and forth. I shut it off at the light and re started it and it ran fine. does anybody know what could have happened? this is the first time

RE: bad idle and smoke
If youve never had this problem before i think youve just seen the first stages of the 5.0 idle as i like to call it. Most 5.0's have the problem sometimes its the tps or iac or just because its a speed density. So clean the iac and and all other electronic components of the engine good if its still happening then keep troubleshooting it.
